HENLEY, England (AP) — California Rowing Club won the Grand Challenge Cup at the Henley Royal Regatta on Sunday, securing the last of three titles for American crews on finals day at the historic annual event.

The California crew, made up of oarsmen who just missed out on selection for the London Olympics, beat Brown by 114 lengths on the River Thames to win the men’s coxed eights, widely considered the most prestigious race at the event.

Brown lost the other all-American final too as freshmen from the University of Washington won the Temple Challenge Cup by three lengths to regain the title the school won in 2010.

It was the fifth boat from the United States in the past six years to win the student coxed eights at Henley.

Harvard won the Ladies’ Challenge Plate by overtaking Leander Club of England in the final few meters.
