A man who has lived in Washougal for nearly 10 years is the newest addition to the City Council.

Brent Boger, Vancouver senior assistant city attorney since 1999, was approved by council members last night. He fills the vacancy left by Jon Russell who recently moved to Virginia.

The other applicants were Washougal Planning Commissioner Larry Wagoner, former Planning Commissioner Morry Secrest and Washougal Park Board member Michael Norris, as well as Michelle Wagner and Randall Ellis. Former councilman Rod Morris withdrew his application, due to illness.

During council interviews, Boger, 55, said his priorities include the addition of retail, the privatization and possible consolidation of services, widening state Route 14 to 32nd Street and making the Washougal River bridge four lanes.

Boger served as chairman of the Clark County Republican Party from 2002 to 2006, and he was a Republican state committeeman representing Clark County from 2006 to 2010.

Boger earned his law degree from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law, in Sacramento, Calif. He received a bachelor’s degree in economics from California State University, in Fresno.

Also during last night’s meeting, Jennifer McDaniel was selected to serve as the city’s mayor pro tem.
