LONDON (AP) — Daniel Sturridge should be fit for Britain’s Olympic soccer team even though he is being treated in hospital for viral meningitis.

The Chelsea forward fell ill over the weekend but says “I am starting to feel a lot better and I am optimistic about being able to make the Olympics.”

Viral meningitis is regarded as a mild strain of the disease.

Sturridge is among three forwards on Britain’s 18-man squad, roster. Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has spoken to Sturridge and says “it’s a question of daily monitoring his health.”

Britain’s first match at the Olympics is against Senegal on July 26.
