Felida — Folks in the neighborhood are mourning the loss of a historic farmhouse on Northwest Lakeshore Avenue: The family home of generations of Ericksons and, for many decades, the headquarters of Erickson Farms, a working 51-acre farm that was established in 1898 and closed shop just a few years ago. In decades past, blue buses used to round up local youngsters to work on the farm in summers. Now, the place has been razed and the plan is to build a planned-unit development with as many as 148 homes, condominiums, offices, retail shops and a central park. The Columbian’s Neighbors blog has great archive photos of the working farm; take a look at columbian.com/weblogs/your-neck-of-the-woods.
