Letter: Limit personal fireworks to July 4
Saturday, July 7, 2012
When will the madness ever stop? I was kept awake one night until close to 3 a.m. by "bombs" going off, along with the accompanying hours of neighborhood dogs barking because of it. I hear it's because people are "showing their patriotism." Well, I'd like to know who exactly are they showing. Is anyone else on this planet impressed by this? I think not.
Patriotism, according to Webster's dictionary, is a love of one's country. So buying fireworks made in China, polluting our environment and keeping one's neighbors up until the wee hours of the morning for weeks on end is patriotic? Oh, give me a break.
I want both the Vancouver City Council and Clark County Commissioners to know that I will never support any candidate for office who is not in favor of either an outright ban on personal fireworks or at least limiting them to the holiday itself, not from June 28 through July 4.
