Letter: Mayor Leavitt is a true leader

I don't agree with every single position the Vancouver City Council takes on issues but, in general, the city is moving in the right direction, and for that, I am appreciative. I expect my elected leaders to consider the big and long-term picture, because many residents can't see beyond next week.
Mayor Tim Leavitt demonstrates over and over that he is not swayed by the rhetoric, fear mongering and threats that come his way in the face of challenging decisions. Joseph Kennedy, father of President John F. Kennedy, is quoted as saying, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." Leadership is most important in difficult times. This is when we see true leaders. Leavitt has demonstrated that he's tough but refreshingly diplomatic. Others in elected office should take note.
