Vancouver Redbirds wins twice at Sr. Babe Ruth

The Vancouver Redbirds won twice Friday to remain alive in the Southern Washington Senior Babe Ruth Tournament at Louis Bloch Park in Camas.

Michael Capps drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Redbirds defeated Prairie Hardball 3-2 in the day’s opening game.

Hayden Humphrey was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBI, and Jai Girod was 2 for 4 with two doubles.

Matt Vick and Nick Martin each had two hits for Prairie Hardball, which was eliminated.

Later, the Redbirds eliminated the Burbank Diamondbacks 10-0. Nick Gawley and Garrett Stevenson each had two hits.

In other games, Hamer Electric of Longview eliminated Aberdeen 14-1 as two Hamer Electric pitchers combined on a no-hitter.

In the winner’s bracket, the Vancouver Jayhawks advanced with a 13-2 win over Hoquiam. Zach Smith was 2 for 3 with a double and two RBI, and Izayiah Allen had a triple and scored three runs for the Jayhawks.

Camas-Washougal Granite capped the night with a 5-3 win in 8 innings over Kennewick. Nathan Lauritzen pitched a complete-game two-hitter, striking out 14.

Camas-Washougal will face the Jayhawks in the winner’s bracket semifinal at 4 p.m. Saturday.

The Redbirds face Kennewick in a loser out game at 1 p.m. Saturday. Hoquiam and Hamer Electric play in the other loser-out game at 10 a.m. The winners of those two games face each other at 7 p.m.
