NAAS, Ireland (AP) — Horse Sport Ireland has dropped showjumper Denis Lynch from the Olympic team over fears his horse Lantinus may test positive for banned drugs.

Lantinus was forced to withdraw from the Nations Cup in Aachen, Germany, on Thursday after the horse was found to be suffering from sore feet and hypersensitivity. The International Equestrian Federation says hypersensitivity can be caused by a reaction to anti-inflammatory drugs, although it also occurs naturally.

Four years ago at the Beijing Games, Lantinus tested positive for banned anti-inflammatories and Lynch couldn’t compete.

Lynch was replaced even though he was due to ride a different horse, Abbervail van het Dingeshof, in the London Games.
