Letter: Coal investment too good to pass up

I’ve heard criticisms of Millennium Bulk Terminal from people who say it will deter future business and tenants at the Port of Longview. On the converse, I believe that by allowing a new coal export facility to be built in Longview, we will only encourage economic growth here.

I read recently that Longview Fiber has had a hard time recruiting skilled labor. What happens when other companies see that. Will they look to invest in Longview? I doubt it.

We have a company here willing to invest $600 million into our community — that’s a bigger commitment than anyone is going to make.

These potential companies — where are they? The old Reynolds site has been empty for 10 years, and I don’t want to see it sit empty for another 100.
