DETROIT (AP) — A hydroplane boat racer says he’s fortunate to have escaped serious injury after flipping his boat on the Detroit River on Saturday.
The Detroit News reports (http://bit.ly/LhOfv0 ) that Mike Webster was heading into the first turn during a four-lap race when his U-22 boat went airborne. Webster’s boat was heavily damaged, but he was able to climb out of the boat with help from rescue workers.
Webster says he is “a little banged up” and has minor bruises, but is “very fortunate.”
Webster was participating in the American Power Boat Association Gold Cup weekend on the Detroit River.
