Youth ball: Jayhawks defeat Wyoming at Babe Ruth regional

The Vancouver Jayhawks kept their hopes alive to reach the semifinals of the Pacific Northwest Senior Babe Ruth regional with a win on Saturday in Kent.

The Jayhawks defeated Casper, Wyo., 6-3 for its first win in its three games of pool play.

Jake Shelley went 3 for 4, Kanoa Bajoa was 2 for 3 with a double and triple, and Anthony Gardener was 2 for 3 with a double for the Jayhawks.

The Vancouver team needs to win its last game today against the Southern Oregon state champion today and likely rely on a tiebreaker to reach play on Monday.

Camas-Washougal Granite dropped to 0-2 with a 26-1 loss to Portland Baseball Club in the Saturday afternoon game.

Granite was playing the host Kent Bulldogs in the last game Saturday. Results were not available at press time.

Little League

9-10 softball — District 6 representative Lewis River won its opening game 10-9 over North Lake at the state tournament being played at Columbia Little League.

Lewis River scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-6 lead, but North Lake tied the game with a three-run sixth. Lewis River then won it with a run in the bottom of the inning.

Gig Harbor scored five in the ninth to defeat Redmond 5-0 as both starting pitchers owned the game.

Gig Harbor’s Adelaide Werner went seven innings with 17 strikeouts, while Redmond starter Alexis Laudenslager also pitched seven innings with 20 strikeouts.

Evergreen, the District 4 rep, plays its first game at 11 a.m. today against Federal Way.

• No other state tournament scores were reported or posted on the Washington State Little League website for games played Saturday.
