Vancouver firefighters and local restaurants will turn up the heat at the fourth annual chili-cooking competition, Fire in the Park, on Saturday.

The free public event will run from 12 noon to 9 p.m. July 21 in Esther Short Park to raise money for Share, a leading provider of services to Clark County’s hungry and homeless.

Numerous local eateries that specialize in barbecue are taking part alongside Vancouver firefighters. Chili is $1 per tasting cup; buy a cup and you’re eligible to vote in categories like Most Unique, Most Flavorful, Best Chef Outfit and more. Music, children’s events, a fire apparatus display and more are also on tap.
