NEW YORK (AP) — New York Mets right-hander Dillon Gee says he could pitch again this season after surgery to repair an artery in his throwing arm.
Gee said on a conference call Tuesday that he could be cleared to throw within six weeks. He doesn’t believe it will take long to regain his strength after that.
Gee complained of numb fingers on his right hand July 8, a day after he pitched eight strong innings in a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs. Tests the next day revealed the arterial blood clot in his shoulder, and doctors in New York used a catheter to break it up.
Gee had surgery Friday in St. Louis, when doctors used a vein from his groin area to widen the artery to prevent future clots.
