NEW WAVERLY, Texas (AP) — John Geddert, personal coach of world champion Jordyn Wieber, will lead the U.S. women’s gymnastics team at the London Olympics.

Geddert was chosen Tuesday night during the pre-Olympic training camp at the ranch of national team coordinator Martha Karolyi. Jenny Zhang, one of Kyla Ross’ coaches, will be his assistant.

Geddert confirmed his selection on Twitter, saying “With pride and honor I announce being named Head Coach for the USA Olympic Gymnastics Team! Pretty cool feeling.”

He also coached the U.S. at last fall’s world championships, where the young and inexperienced Americans won half of the gold medals available, including the team title and Wieber’s all-around crown. They are heavy favorites for gold in London. The U.S. women have won only one Olympic title, in 1996.
