A Battle Ground man was sent to the hospital after a Wednesday afternoon crash on Interstate 5 in Lewis County.

The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-5 just north of Winlock, according to a Washington State Patrol memo.

Jeffrey L. Calcagno, 55, was driving a 2012 Subaru Legacy when it drifted to the right and hit the left front tire area of a semi truck, the state patrol said. Calcagno’s Subaru drifted left and back to the right, hitting the semi’s rear tire area. The car then hit a jersey barrier, continued to the right, went off the roadway and stopped in a ditch.

The semi continued southbound, state patrol said.

Calcagno was transported to Providence Centralia Hospital.

His car was totaled.

The cause of the crash and potential charges are under investigation.
