Letter: An effective vote is a dollar spent
Thursday, July 19, 2012
This week, Clark County residents will begin to receive their mail-in ballots for this year's primary election. We can all agree that 2012 is an important year on both national and local levels. This is also a great time to remind ourselves that every day is Election Day.
Every dollar we spend is a "vote" for the success of the business that we choose. And like politics, signage and advertising matter, and the most effective campaigns are also the most expensive. Every time we choose to do business with a local employer or "mom & pop" shop, we are making the "vote" to keep jobs and dollars in our Clark County community. We are "voting" for well-funded schools and safe communities. The success of these local businesses perpetuates many positive effects we can all enjoy.
The result is stability in home prices due to a diverse employment base, which leads to increased consumer confidence when making decisions about the future. According to the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis, one dollar spent in the economy is subsequently spent over seven times thereafter.
Let's "vote" together every day for a better Clark County in 2012.
