UPDATE: Burgerville employees in Portland chase down suspect

Customer allegedly stole cash from till, fled

A customer who allegedly snatched money from a till was chased and captured by Burgerville employees Monday.

The incident occurred at one of Burgerville’s Portland locations, 3425 S.E. 25th Ave., at 6:40 p.m. Monday.

According to Portland police, a man approached the counter and ordered a drink. When the cashier opened the till, the man reportedly reached inside, grabbed a handful of cash, and ran out of the restaurant.

Employees chased him out the door and down the street, finally tackling him at Southeast 27th Street and Powell Boulevard. He allegedly punched one employee in the head, causing a minor injury.

The suspect, identified as Dewayne Charles Taylor, 31, was booked into the the Multnomah County Jail on suspicion of third-degree robbery and two outstanding warrants.
