RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina State has hired former UCLA coach Larry Farmer as its director of player development for men’s basketball.

Wolfpack coach Mark Gottfried announced the hiring Thursday.

Farmer had 166 wins in 12 seasons as a head coach at UCLA, Weber State and Loyola of Chicago. He went 61-23 with one NCAA tournament trip while coaching the Bruins from 1981-84.

He spent the past three seasons as an assistant at Western Michigan and was on Hawaii’s staff before that.

Gottfried says Farmer “is a proven winner and will add a great deal to our program.”
