LONDON (AP) -- Mark Cavendish and his British teammates have started their bid to win the first gold medal of the London Games in the Olympic road race.
The route of more than 150 miles passes some of London's iconic landmarks and features the tricky Box Hill climb that the pack will confront nine times on Saturday.
Riders were cheered by Prince Charles and Camilla at the start on the Mall. About a million people are expected to line up along the road.
