LONDON (AP) — The group of water polo veterans who helped the U.S. men to the silver medal in Beijing are hoping to move up a notch in London.

The American roster includes two four-time Olympians and four players who played in three previous games, including captain Tony Azevedo. Only three London players are first-time Olympians.

Azevedo says: “We want to win the gold and we want to be the best.”

Coach Terry Schroeder said Friday the squad is in “a really good place going into the games.”

The Americans face Montenegro in their Group B opener Sunday. They also will play gold-medal favorites Serbia and three-time defending Olympic champion Hungary in the group stage.

The U.S. hasn’t won gold in water polo since the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis.
