WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — The Winnipeg Jets signed defenseman Toby Enstrom to a five-year contract extension Friday.

The value of the deal was not disclosed, but Enstrom has one year remaining on his current contract, which carried a cap hit of $3.75 million per season.

The 27-year-old Enstrom, who could have become an unrestricted free agent next summer, appeared in 62 games last season with the Jets. He recorded 33 points (six goals, 27 assists).

The native of Nordingra, Sweden, is the Atlanta-Winnipeg franchise’s leader among defensemen in games played (380), points (204) and assists (172).

Enstrom originally was drafted by the Thrashers in the eighth round of the 2003 draft.
