BEREA, Ohio (AP) — Both Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy threw ugly interceptions as they competed for the Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback job.

Rookie Weeden and incumbent McCoy were given a stern test Sunday by coach Pat Shurmur. All four of Cleveland’s quarterbacks worked in third-and-long sets, pitted against a Browns’ pass defense that ranked second overall in the NFL a year ago.

That’s not an easy task. Not surprisingly, the more experienced defense won out overall.

Veterans Sheldon Brown and D’Qwell Jackson say the defensive unit is ready to step up all season. Their goal is to not only stop opposing offenses, but take the ball from them and put Cleveland’s young offense in better position to perform.
