PITTSFORD, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is the first to acknowledge he still faces questions about his consistency and mechanics.
The rest of the qualities it takes to play the position — poise, toughness, respect and confidence — the Buffalo Bills starter has down pat, his teammates say. From the ability to take a big hit and play hurt, as he did overcoming a severe chest injury last season, to accepting pressure and blame, Fitzpatrick is right there.
Whether it’s taking his offensive linemen out to dinner or merely remembering a birthdate or a player’s wife’s first name, his actions have resonated through the locker room, as well.
Center Eric Wood refers to Fitzpatrick as “Our guy,” and wouldn’t trade him for anybody.
Coach Chan Gailey goes one further, saying Fitzpatrick has the potential to win championships.
