NEW YORK (AP) — The St. Louis Cardinals have placed Skip Schumaker on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring and activated Allen Craig, completing a flurry of roster moves over the past two days.

The team also recalled left-hander Sam Freeman from Triple-A Memphis on Friday before the opener of a four-game series against the New York Mets. A day earlier, the injury-ravaged Cardinals recalled right-hander Maikel Cleto from Memphis and optioned pitchers Chuckie Fick and Brandon Dickson to their top farm club.

Schumaker, who plays second base and the outfield, was hurt during Wednesday night’s game in Atlanta. He is expected to miss two to four weeks.

Craig, a first baseman and corner outfielder, missed 14 games while he was on the DL with a strained left hamstring.
