CLEVELAND (AP) — Indians manager Manny Acta says catcher Carlos Santana has made progress from his concussion and should be in the lineup next week.

Santana was placed on Major League Baseball’s new, seven-day concussion list on May 26 after being struck in the mask by a foul tip in Chicago. Santana took indoor batting practice before Friday’s game against Minnesota and is scheduled to catch a bullpen session on Saturday. After that, Santana will be retested before he can be activated.

Acta is “optimistic” Santana, who is batting .245 with five homers and 24 RBIs, will return to the middle of Cleveland’s lineup in a few days.

Cleveland backup catcher Lou Marson started Friday after missing three games with stitches after being hit in the mouth with a pitch last week.
