COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) -- A lawyer for a newspaper's website says that people should be allowed to post anonymous comments on its blogs without fear of being identified and then sued.
The Spokesman-Review newspaper has been subpoenaed in the case of a northern Idaho Republican leader who is seeking the identities of three people who commented anonymously about her on the newspaper's website. The newspaper argued against the subpoena on Friday before 1st District Judge John Luster.
Kootenai County Republican Central Committee Chairwoman Tina Jacobson says she was libeled and has the right to sue for damages.
Luster says he would consider the arguments and rule later on whether the subpoena filed by Jacobson should be quashed.
