Ore. authorities ID wandering woman as Virginian

ALBANY, Ore. (AP) — Authorities say a woman found wandering two weeks ago near Albany in Oregon’s Willamette Valley is a Virginian who suffers from mental illness and has a history of traveling without identification when she stops taking medication.

A statement from Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller says 67-year-old Marcia Lee Rackley of Yorktown, Va., had been traced to a Chicago-Portland bus trip, where she showed up on surveillance video, and then to April stays in Chicago-area medical facilities.

Mueller says a nurse manager recognized her from a Chicago press release and called Friday morning to identify her.

Mueller says the woman’s sister in Virginia has been contacted, and her caregivers given her medical information “so she can aid in her own care or be treated within an in-patient care facility.”
