YACHATS, Ore. (AP) — Three members of the Oregon State Police SWAT team on the Oregon coast have shot and killed a man they say was holding a rifle.
The state police were conducting surveillance on a remote residence late Thursday night following a mid-May assault in Yachats. They say the officers fired when they encountered the man outside the residence.
The police say a man and a woman inside the house surrendered several hours later.
Police said the place was about 7 miles east of U.S. 101.
The state police released information on the shooting Friday but did not identify anybody involved.
The three state police officers have been put on paid leave.
