MADRID (AP) — The players on defending champion Spain have been banned from tweeting during the European Championship.

Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas wrote on his Twitter account that beginning Friday “we are not allowed to use social networks.”

Gerard Pique tells his fans he won’t be in touch during the tournament that runs from June 8 to July 1. And Victor Valdes writes: “I hope the next message I write comes with Spain as champion.”

The squad is in Madrid before Sunday’s exhibition game against China in Seville. It’s their last warmup before the tournament that is co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine.

Spain opens June 10 against Italy. It will also face Croatia and Ireland in Group C.
