Army identifies JBLM soldier killed in Afghanistan

SEATTLE (AP) — The Department of Defense has identified a Joint Base Lewis-McChord soldier who died in Afghanistan on Thursday.

Staff Sgt. Alexander G. Povilaitis of Dawsonville, Ga., died in Kandahar province of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device.

The 47-year-old was assigned to 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade, and stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington state.
