"Dream Big – READ!"

That's the theme of the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District's summer program for young readers.

The free program runs through the end of August; registration ends Aug. 15.

• Preschool (5 and younger): Parents and caregivers can read to their children or do other activities with them to complete 15 steps on an early-learning or a school-readiness game board. Completed boards can be exchanged for prizes. Participants also can enter a drawing at each library. Grand prizes include one-year family memberships to the Portland Children's Museum, Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, or the Oregon Zoo.

• Children (6 through 11 by Aug. 31): After completing a 10-square game board, participants can get a prize. They also can enter a grand-prize drawing at each library for $300 toward a stay at Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound.

• Teens (12 through 19 by Aug. 31): Readers can get a $5 Barnes & Noble gift card for 10 hours of reading recorded in a journal (limited to the first four journals), or an entry in a grand-prize drawing. Additional journals will earn more drawing entries. Grand prizes at 12 libraries include a Kindle Fire, $200 Barnes & Noble gift card, $200 Amazon.com gift card, or a Nook Tablet.

Information is available at FVRL libraries and bookmobiles; by calling 360-906-5106; or at www.fvrl.org.

In 2011, 21,360 children logged 200,000 hours in reading and activities; 3,150 teens read for 43,700 hours.
