LOS ANGELES (AP) — Erik Mattingly pitched six strong innings and Anthony Bemboom homered to lead Creighton to a 7-2 victory over New Mexico on Sunday in an elimination game of the Los Angeles Regional.

Mattingly (3-4) scattered three hits and gave up two runs, and Reese McGraw pitched the final three innings for his fifth save. Josh Walker (8-3) took the loss.

Bemboom’s second homerun of the season — a three-run shot — in the first inning gave the Bluejays (28-29) a 3-0 lead. Chance Ross’ two-run single in the fourth upped Creighton’s lead to 5-1.

Brennan Murphy’s two-run double in the fifth extended Creighton’s advantage to 7-2.

New Mexico (37-24) entered the regional with the most hits in the nation (712), fourth in runs (461) and fourth in average (.333), but was held to a total of five hits and three runs in its two losses in the tournament.
