PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- A research team from Washington State University is turning battery research on its head.
Instead of being frustrated by the problems that cause electronic devices to die, they are seeking to turn those problems into opportunities to extend the life of lithium-ion batteries.
The Lewiston Tribune (http://is.gd/gsAomk ) reports the research led by materials engineering professor Grant Norton focuses on the "whiskers" that grow on batteries and cause them to short-circuit.
