NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — A large derelict dock washed ashore this week on Agate Beach near Newport, leaving some wondering if it was torn away from Japan by the March 2011 tsunami.

The dock is a concrete and metal pontoon that measures 66 feet long, 7 feet high and 19 feet wide.

A spokesman for the Oregon Department of Parks and Recreation, Chris Havel, told The Oregonian (http://is.gd/DWIgRy) there’s no obvious evidence it crossed the ocean from Japan. But it will have to be removed from the beach. If it can’t be refloated, it may have to be dismantled.
