Tuesday, June 5, 2012
A Vancouver commercial truck driver was involved in a non-injury semitruck accident early Tuesday that dumped scrap metal in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 in Albany, blocking traffic for more than two hours, according to Oregon State Police.
Douglas West, 43, of Vancouver was making a right turn at about 11:35 a.m. from an on-ramp curve from Northeast Century Drive to northbound I-5 when the truck he was driving rolled onto its left side, dumping part of a 36,000-pound load of scrap metal. Both northbound lanes were blocked.
The Oregon Department of Transportation coordinated cleanup of the scene and reopened the lanes at about 1:30 p.m.
West, an employee of Joel Olson Trucking in Vancouver, was cited by OSP for careless driving.
No one was injured in the incident.
Linn County Sheriff's Office and Albany Fire Department assisted OSP at the scene.
