Northwest — Julie Kern, a 2006 graduate of Hudson's Bay High School, has been working in the office of Tacoma-Pierce Habitat for Humanity. In May, she rolled up her sleeves and joined more than 400 volunteers to work at Habitat for Humanity International's AmeriCorps Build-a-Thon May 14-25, highlighting green building practices and making houses more energy efficient and affordable for partner homeowners. Kern worked at the Los Angeles site and helped put a new roof on an existing home. "Working alongside the future homeowner and seeing how excited she was to own her own house was inspiring," Kern said.
