The Camas-Washougal Fire Department in May was awarded a $490,000 Federal Emergency Management Agency Staffing for Fire & Emergency Response Grant.

If the grant is accepted by the Camas City Council, it will be used to hire three firefighter-EMTs, Camas-Washougal Chief Nick Swinhart said in a release. The grant will cover the full salary and benefits for the firefighters for three years.

“The department is extremely excited and proud to receive this award as it was the first time we had applied for the grant,” Swinhart wrote.

The Camas council will vote to accept the award at a meeting on June 18. If passed, the positions will be filled as soon as possible, Swinhart said.
