OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — Matt Grevers won the 200-meter backstroke at the Mutual of Omaha Swimvitational on Saturday night. He says he plans to take a shot at qualifying in the event at the U.S. Olympic Trials in two weeks.

Grevers was timed in 2 minutes, 00.82 seconds, winning easily over Andrew Teduits.

Grevers won the silver in the 100 backstroke in Beijing in 2008. He’s been using the 200 as a training event for the 100. He’s been fast enough in the 200 that he wants to attempt to earn the second spot on the U.S. team behind Ryan Lochte.

Roland Schoeman of South Africa won the 50 freestyle in 22.00 seconds, the 14th-fastest time in the world this year.

The Swimvitational is held in the same pool as the trials.
