NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — Athletics Kenya says that injury has forced Moses Mosop to withdraw from Kenya’s Olympic marathon team.

Athletics Kenya President Isaiah Kiplagat said Tuesday that Mosop had written to AK to pull out of the team citing a tendon injury.

The Chicago Marathon title holder will be replaced by Emmanuel Mutai, the 2011 London Marathon champion. Mutai joins 2012 London Marathon winner Wilson Kipsang and two-time defending world champion Abel Kirui on the team.

Reserves Patrick Makau, the world record-holder, and Geoffrey Mutai, who set a course record in winning last year’s New York Marathon, missed out.

Kipsang, the second-fastest marathon runner in history behind Makau, will lead Kenya’s charge to retain its men’s Olympic title in the marathon won by the late Sammy Wanjiru in Beijing four years ago.
