SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jack Nicklaus will always be linked with winning the U.S. Open — not just in the record book, but on the gold medal.

Starting this year, the U.S. Open champion will receive the Jack Nicklaus Medal. The medal, which has been awarded every year since the championship began in 1895, previously did not have a name. It features an image of Nicklaus on the back.

Also, the USGA said it is building a special wing on its museum dedicated to Nicklaus and his USGA career, which includes titles in the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Open and U.S. Senior Open. Nicklaus joins Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan, Arnold Palmer and Mickey Wright as players who have their own room at the USGA Museum in Far Hills, N.J.
