Bella Vista — Approval and the extension of water pipes by the city, plus a $1,500 grant from the Vancouver Watersheds Council, led to the creation of a new community food garden in the northwest corner of Bella Vista Neighborhood Park. Nineteen neighbors gathered in late May "to clear the sod, dig fence posts, build raised beds, shovel compost, spread gravel and plant seeds and veggie starts" in seven beds, according to project coordinator Ruth Wilmoth. Neighbors pay $15 per season to garden each 4-by-12-foot raised bed. Next year, there may be 10 beds.
