Cubs 3B Ian Stewart out with sore wrist

CHICAGO (AP) — Third baseman Ian Stewart has been scratched from the Chicago Cubs’ lineup with a sore left wrist.

Joe Mather started at third against the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night. The lineup remained the same otherwise, with Mather batting eighth.

Stewart has been playing with a balky wrist for a couple of weeks. He was batting .201 with five homers and 17 RBIs in 55 games in his first year with Chicago.

Mather made his first start since Sunday at Minnesota. He entered Wednesday night’s game with a .265 average, three homers and nine RBIs.
