Letter: Wild salmon runs: Let science rule

I was pleased to read the May 21 editorial, "Protecting nature: Twin milestones illustrate importance of Endangered Species Act." Salmon are important to our region both culturally and economically. While there have been some improvements in their returns due to court-ordered spill and other measures, the wild populations are still threatened and in need of our help. The process that the Portland-based organization Save Our Wild Salmon is advocating makes sense.

As a local teacher, I would hope that we could set such an example for our children by sitting down together, assessing all the available science, and making sound decisions with everyone's future in mind.
