Scholl of US reaches quarterfinals in Austria

BAD GASTEIN, Austria (AP) — Chichi Scholl of the United States defeated sixth-seeded Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-3, 6-4 to reach quarterfinals at the Gastein Ladies tournament on Thursday.

The 190th-ranked Scholl will play the winner of the match between third-seeded Ksenia Pervak of Kazakhstan and Sarah Gronert of Germany.

The seventh-seeded Alize Cornet of France and eight-seeded Johanna Larsson of Sweden also advanced to the quarterfinals.

Cornet defeated Sacha Jones of Australia 6-3, 6-2 and will play Estrella Cabeza Candela of Spain, who beat Dutch qualifier Richel Hogenkamp 6-4, 6-3.

Larsson beat Jill Craybas of the United States 6-2, 6-3.
