Less than a week after announcing he would be the Vancouver-Clark Parks & Recreation interim director, Bill Hutsinpiller has declined the position.

Hutsinpiller was to serve as interim director until a replacement could be found for current director Pete Mayer, who will leave the post on June 22.

Hutsinpiller made the decision after meeting with Mayer, Vancouver City Manager Eric Holmes wrote to the city council Wednesday.

“Unfortunately, based on the time demands of the interim role and some ongoing medical considerations, Bill has decided to withdraw and will not be serving in an interim capacity,” Holmes wrote. “I am working with (Clark County Administrator) Bill Barron to identify an alternative interim leadership approach, and will share what the next steps will be as soon as possible.”
