Letter: HELP act supported
Thursday, June 14, 2012
As readers follow news coverage of Medicare and its impact on elections, we must all pay special attention to growing needs of elderly neighbors, especially near their end of life. This includes access to hospice, which provides holistic care for patients and their families, yet is more compassionate and potentially less costly to Medicare than spending one's last days in a hospital ICU.
As a health care professional, I'm pleased to see Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, support national hospice legislation known as the HELP Act, which maintains access to hospice care while promoting better safeguards to ensure that only quality providers are eligible to deliver Medicare hospice services. It would help more than 30 Washington hospice providers to deliver even better care to their patients and families. I thank Herrera Beutler for her strong support of the HELP Act and urge other Washingtonians to do the same.
