ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — The Houston Astros have placed reliever Wilton Lopez on the 15-day disabled list with a sprained right elbow.
Houston also activated left-hander Fernando Abad from the DL before facing Texas on Friday night. He had been out since May 26 with a muscle strain in his right ribs.
Manager Brad Mills says Lopez felt tenderness Tuesday, two days after he last pitched in Chicago. The pitcher flew back to Houston from San Francisco to be examined by team doctors.
Lopez has made 32 appearances for Houston this season, going 3-0 with a 2.51 ERA.
