TORONTO (AP) — The Blue Jays are losing starting pitchers at an alarming rate.
Rookie right-hander Drew Hutchison became the third Toronto starter in five days to leave with a mid-game injury when he walked off the mound just nine pitches into Friday’s game against Philadelphia, forced out by a sore right elbow.
Hutchison appeared to feel pain after a 1-1 pitch to Hunter Pence, the third batter of the game. A trainer and manager John Farrell came out to check on Hutchison and, after a brief discussion, replaced him with left-hander Aaron Laffey.
The Blue Jays announced earlier in the day that an MRI on righty Kyle Drabek revealed a torn ligament in his elbow.
