Letter: Council ignores earlier votes

The Columbian

Here we go again. The Vancouver City Council has decided in its infinite “wisdom” to let a funding measure go to a vote of the people again in November. The council apparently has no concept of the word “no.” According to the last vote, we do not want light rail in Clark County, especially at multimillions of dollars per mile only to serve a narrow corridor.

The council members apparently do not understand that they serve at the will of the people, not the other way around. We put them in office. We can take them out of office. I will not vote for anyone with the word “incumbent” accompanying their name.

Lincoln said that this is a government of, by, and for the people. He did not say that it is of, by, and for the government. That extends down to the state and local governments, not just at the federal level.

When, and if, the city council learns that concept, then perhaps the people of Vancouver will have an effective government. But, as it seems to be going now, we will have light rail crammed down our collective throats, like it or not, regardless of how we vote.
