Ethiopian, Kenyan runners win Grandma’s Marathon

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — Ethiopian runner Girma Berhanu has won Grandma’s Marathon in Minnesota, and Kenyan runner Everlyne Lagat has won the women’s division.

The Duluth News Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/MSspi5 ) Berhanu finished Saturday’s race in 2 hours, 12 minutes, 25 seconds. Lagat finished in 2:33:14.

Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth is the 13th largest marathon in the U.S. and is run with two half marathons. About 7,600 people were expected to start the full marathon.

Jack Delehanty, 25, of Minneapolis, won the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon in 1:10:57. Kelly Brinkman, 31, of Bloomington, Minn., won the women’s division in 1:18:11.

Abdi Abdirahman, 35, of Tucson, Ariz., won the men’s U.S. Half Marathon Championship in 1:02:46. The women’s winner was Kara Goucher, 33, of Portland, Ore., with a time of 1:09:34.
